Enjoying Easter

How does YMCA Wirral celebrate Easter?

This Easter Monday, we were lucky enough to enjoy some much-needed sunshine—and made the most of it with a BBQ in the garden at our hostel.

Staff took to the grill, serving up burgers and hot food alongside plenty of fizzy drinks. It was a simple setup, but it brought people together in a really meaningful way. Residents spent time outdoors, chatting, laughing, and enjoying the change of pace that the good weather brought.

The day also gave some of our newer staff members a chance to meet residents in a more informal setting. Moments like this help build trust and strengthen the sense of community within the hostel.

Baking and Gardening

Alongside this, over at our lower-level supported housing, residents took part in a hanging baskets session. This was a chance for those living more independently to come together for a group gardening activity, with some really lovely results. Residents created and planted their own baskets, adding colour and life to their surroundings while spending time together outdoors.

There was also a baking session! Because what’s Easter without Chocolate?

Both activities are about something simple but important: creating spaces where people who have been marginalised can take part. Whether it’s sharing food in the garden or planting something new, or baking tasty treats, these moments play a big role in wellbeing and building a sense of home.
