Our Christmas Play 2025!

Bah Humbug – Birkenhead edition

It’s official – our play is happening on the 11th of December at Wirral Change! But what is it?

Well. Imagine the classic story of Ebeneezer Scrooge through a lens of modern homelessness – and 229 miles north of where the story originally took place. In this rendition of the Dickensian classic, Bob Cratchit struggles with homelessness and keeping his family together. Without giving too much away, it highlights the challenges that our local homeless community face trying to access support and basic services. But the rest of the plot is for you to discover on the night: the 11th of December at Wirral Change.

The preparations are in full speed

Our most recent rehearsal focused on voice projection, but as always, it was far more than a technical session. Even at this stage, new ideas, fresh interpretations, and creative changes are still being introduced. That’s the spirit of this project: a completely collaborative approach where every thought is welcomed, explored, and often celebrated. There are no wrong ideas. Instead,  everyone has something valuable to contribute.

What makes this production so special is the way both groups — our residents and the LIPA students — come together as equals. Our residents take on lead roles, shaping the direction and heart of the story, while the students support, direct, and perform alongside them to help bring their ideas to life. It’s a creative environment like no other: a room full of voices, experiences, humour, and hope, combining to produce something that truly reflects our local community.

The play itself is filled with warm, lighthearted humour — the kind that makes rehearsals echo with laughter — but it doesn’t shy away from the realities that shape our community. Throughout the story, moments of vulnerability sit alongside moments of joy, highlighting both the strengths and challenges faced by people in the Wirral. At its core is a message of connection, resilience, and the shared hope that, together, we can build something stronger.

The result is a production that speaks from the heart — because it was made by the community, for the community.

We can’t wait to share it with you. Keep an eye out for upcoming details about performance dates and times. You won’t want to miss this joyful, meaningful, and uniquely local Christmas performance.
