Care for our four-legged residents

YMCA Wirral has been a pet-friendly hostel for as long as we can remember. But now, with the support of the Dogs Trust, we have further strategised how we can best support our residents who care for four-legged companions.

  • Staff training on interacting with dogs

Positive Change

It’s easier for people to be referred to us! Now that we are Dogs Trust endorsed, we can be recommended to those experiencing homelessness as a hostel that can ensure that they won’t have to choose between accommodation and their pet. Keeping dogs and their owners together is essential for wellbeing, and we are committed to upholding that.

Christmas Hamper: We are now eligible for the residents of our hostel to receive gift hampers, which they can then gift their dogs for Christmas. Giving the person experiencing homelessness the resources to provide something to their closest companion is extremely empowering. We can’t wait to see the beloved dogs of our hostel receive a range of goodies this Christmas.
