Harvest Festival: For People Experiencing Homelessness

Published

The event in a nutshell

We planned a warming environment, hosted in the hall at Heart 4 Refugees, where people experiencing homelessness could enjoy a celebration, perhaps their first event in years.

Think haybales, fairy lights, live folk and rock music, autumnal hot food, and tables of goodies to help people living in crisis get by day-to-day.

The trestle table included towers of tins to take, an assortment of sweets, an abundance of noodles, and a hoard of crisps. The next section was filled with hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps – all that good stuff. This proved to be a very, very popular addition to the event, with supplies barely

The Future of Birkenhead: Pride In Place

This whole get-together was funded by Pride in Place, which is a government initiative to improve local spaces, and to do that, they need to consult local people! People experiencing homelessness are just as deserving as having their say as anyone else, and our event made space for that to happen.

Attendees could share which local issues they feel are most deserving on investment and improvement, ranging from local transport, community housing, high street investment, green spaces, etc;. Pride in Place can now review this data, both from our event, and all the equivalent events that have taken place with multiple communities across Birkenhead, to decide where funding should be allocated.

We are excited to see what’s in store for Birkenhead, and all those who inhabit it!
