RSI Team

Rough sleepers initiative

Our borough Wide service delivers nightly outreach to those sleeping rough. The RSI team aim to find individuals, meet any immediate needs for food, warmth, medical attention, and try to engage the person/people in question in the next phase of support by providing accommodation.

Our dedicated RSI team carry out their nightly outreach by visiting prime areas for rough sleeping, following up referrals made by the public regarding individuals seen experiencing rough sleeping, and checking in on those known to our services who have not yet decided to engage with accommodation support.

Local councils assess individuals on a case by case basis to place those experiencing homelessness in the most suitable service. Our RSI team, if the individual is willing to accept support, will take the individual to the selected temporary accommodation, which often, is our own Triage Department (include link).

The most frequent immediate outcomes for homeless individuals is

  • Placed in our own triage department
  • Placed into supported accommodation
  • Placed in hotels/bbs
  • Admitted to hospital
  • Re-engaged into their families and support network
  • Placed in a care home
  • Moved into private tenancy

Assertive Outreach is funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and YMCA Wirral are proud to implement this innovative service.
