56 en-suite rooms

Our main site is located at 56 Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, where we have an award winning 56 en-suite bedrooms purpose-built building.

The accommodation within the building offers a two-tier supported accommodation across our four floors:

  • Higher level supported housing services
  • Semi-Independent medium supported housing services

Higher level supported residents have meals provided in our canteen, thanks to our dedicated and personable catering team. Semi-independent clients have access to shared kitchens to cook independently.

Communal Spaces

All residents enjoy our open-plan communal space, completed with sofas, a large TV, a pool table, and space for activities. This communal lounge directly connects to a conservatory, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, and our Support Office which operates 24/7, every day of the year. As well as the indoor communal area and conservatory, our garden at YMCA Wirral is greatly treasured by staff and residents alike. With a gazebo, picnic benches, flower beds, and green house, it’s a tranquil setting for relaxation, or for group activities such as our regular barbeques. We are very proud to offer our residents with a Controlled Drinking Environment, where alcohol usage can be safely tracked by professionals who offer guidance to reach personal goals.

 

Whilst the communal area is the primary area for socialization within the hostel, we also have a dedicated room for specific activities, often in smaller groups. We frequently see a number of clients arriving at the hostel feeling withdrawn and more comfortable in their private bedrooms. With a quieter activities room, away from the open-plan communal area, residents have different settings to choose from to engage in a way that feels right for them.
